- Approximately 30 jobs created by Oriental Walmart Express
- Store open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week
ORIENTAL, N.C., April 25, 2014 – A new Walmart Express store will open Friday, May 2, in Oriental, bringing the community everyday low prices in a smaller format store. The new store is designed to make shopping quick and easy for area customers who want to save money and find what they need close to home, including a full pharmacy and gas station. The new Walmart Express store is located at 1400 B Broad St. Extension.
“Walmart is pleased to become a part of this community and we look forward to engaging with local schools, charities and organizations in a variety of ways,” said Store Manager Tammy Barton. “We are also excited about bringing additional shopping options to our customers in this area through our smaller Express Store format,” Barton said.
The approximately 12,000-square-foot Walmart Express store features a pharmacy and offers groceries and general merchandise, including an assortment of fresh produce, dairy and meats, dry goods, consumables, health and beauty aids, over-the-counter medicines and more.
The full-service pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
Ribbon-Cutting Celebration at 7:30 a.m., Friday, May 2
Community leaders will join Walmart associates at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, May 2, for a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new store.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $3,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Community in Schools Fighting Hunger program.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in North Carolina donated approximately 21 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 17.5 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $39.8 million in fiscal year 2013 in North Carolina alone. New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs approximately 30 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Express opened in 2011, and today there are approximately 30 Walmart Express stores nationwide.
Store manager Tammy Barton began her Walmart career in 2000 as a cashier.
“I’m excited to bring this small-format store to Oriental,” said Barton. “I think the community will love being able to get in and out quickly while still shopping with Walmart’s everyday low prices.”
A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Oriental community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, May 3. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Barton and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
