More than $2,000 in school supplies, gift cards raised to support the 2013-2014 academic year
MILPITAS, Calif. (September 30, 2013) – The Walmart store in Milpitas recently held its first "Stuff the Bus" fundraiser to collect school supplies for students and teachers at Robert Randall Elementary School. In addition to collecting multiple boxes of donations, Walmart contributed an additional $2,000 worth of supplies and gift cards, aiding students and teachers for the current 2013-2014 academic school year.
Walmart store associates passed out fliers to customers for nine hours, encouraging them to donate supplies including pens, pencils, binders, glue and crayons to fill the Milpitas Unified School District bus parked in front of the store. By the end of the day, multiple donation boxes were collected and placed on the bus, along with $1,000 worth of supplies from Walmart.
"We are proud to support the Milpitas community and our local schools," said Milpitas Walmart Store Manager Abraham Arroyo. "The 'Stuff the Bus' fundraiser is a great way to show our customers that we care."
Milpitas City Councilman Armando Gomez, who attended Robert Randall Elementary as a child, said he welcomes any effort to support childhood education such as this. "I was so excited to learn about this fundraiser," he said. "I know that the students and teachers alike will benefit from the generous donations made by Walmart and Walmart shoppers."
The supplies were presented to Robert Randall Elementary's principal, Kristian Lecours, during an on-campus donation ceremony on September 5th. Walmart's personnel manager Eva Ballada and assistant manager Losa Foster also presented the Randall community with $1,000 worth of Walmart gift cards to be used by teachers, as well as a $100 gift card which was donated by an anonymous customer.
